A soft copy is needed prior to using Termsoup

A soft copy of the source file is needed before using Termsoup and other CAT software because the software is designed to work with digital text. The source file is typically in a digital format such as a Word document or an Excel spreadsheet, and Termsoup reads this file and separates it into segments, which can then be translated.

With a soft copy, Termsoup can also store and retrieve previously translated segments, known as translation memories (TM), which can then be used to automatically pre-translate similar segments of text in the future. This can help to speed up the translation process and improve consistency in the translation.

What if you only have a hard copy?

If you only have a hard copy, you can follow these steps to generate a soft one:

- Scan the physical copy and save it as an image file.
- Use optical character recognition (OCR) software to extract the text from the image.
- Upload the text to Termsoup and begin your translation.

What if you have a PDF file

It is important to determine the type of PDF you have received:

If it is a text PDF, you can convert it to a Word document using a PDF to Word converter before using Termsoup.
If it is a scanned PDF, you can extract the text using OCR software before using Termsoup.
